COLUMBUS – State Representative Mike Loychik (R-Bazetta) supports the concept of building a lake-to-river natural gas pipeline that would follow State Route 11, which runs almost 100 miles unimpeded from Lake Erie to the Ohio River.

“The 5.86 billion Ohio has received from the federal government as well as our state capital budget needs to be put to use in an effective way,” said Loychik.  “Not only will this provide clean energy via natural gas, but it will create an abundance of great paying jobs for Ohioans in skilled trades targeted toward pipeline and high-speed broadband infrastructure development. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

This project would open up Appalachia Ohio to many ancillary benefits and the area would see a revival as a result. The Utica Shale has many untapped resources such as methane, ethane, propane, butane, and other hydrocarbons.

If this potential pipeline were to be built the Utica Shale would be utilized to its full potential with the benefits being passed on to the communities in the Appalachian area.

According to the Energy Department, “the shale gas revolution has the potential to last for more than a century.” The Energy Department goes on to say, “Capitalizing on the benefits of the shale gas revolution requires maintaining the region’s ability to drill, produce and transport natural gas to domestic consumers and export markets.”

“I’m thrilled about this project and look forward to spearheading it with other officials throughout the state,” said Loychik.
