COLUMBUS– State Representative Mike Loychik (R-Bazetta) today made the following statement in recognition of Purple Heart Day:
“Today, August 7, we honor the men and women of our armed forces who have been killed or wounded in action by observing National Purple Heart Day.
The Purple Heart Medal, which traces its origins back to 1782, received its modern-day look and name in 1932, thanks to Army General Douglas MacArthur.
It is estimated there are 1.8 million recipients of this award.
As Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and a veteran myself, I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to all Purple Heart recipients, both in Ohio and nationwide.”
