John Announces Violent Crime Reduction Grant Award for Richland County Sheriff's Office
State Rep. Marilyn John (R-Richland County) announces the Richland County Sheriff’s Office is being awarded $106,550 through the Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program. John supported the measure through legislation last year.
“I’m pleased to announce this important funding coming through for our local sheriff’s office that’s going to better our communities,” John said. “Reducing crime and keeping our residents and families safe has always been at the top of my priority list - this measure is helping us make that happen for Richland County.”
Last year John cosponsored and voted to support House Bill 110, known as the state operating budget that included the crime reduction grant program.
The funding for the Richland County Sheriff’s Office will be used for new staffing to allow for an additional deputy to be assigned to investigate major crimes such as homicide, robbery, burglary, and sexual assault. Additionally, funds will be invested in new technology to assist in preventing and investigating incidents of violent crime.
