State Board OKs Washington State Funding

COLUMBUS – The State Controlling Board today approved the release of $2 million for work at Washington State Community College, State Representatives Jay Edwards and Don Jones announced today.

The capital funding is for the Health Sciences Renovation project, which involves expanding and renovate classroom and lab facilities to support Health Sciences programs at Washington State Community College.

Edwards (R-Nelsonville) and Jones (R-Freeport) said the project will result mean more educational opportunities and enhanced workforce training in the area.

Local hospitals and healthcare facilities rely on WSCC graduates to meet their workforce needs. The facility expansion project will allow for increased student enrollment in high demand fields such as nursing. It will also provide students with access to state-of-the-art simulation laboratories, as well as provide the space for the development of new programs.

Also today, the State Controlling Board approved $316,719 to support campus safety at Washington State Community College. The aid is part of $5 million in campus safety grants being distributed to colleges and universities across Ohio. 

The board also approved the transfer of funding for several workforce initiatives at colleges and universities across the state, including $286,896 for Washington State Community College. The Workforce Based Training and Equipment funding is to support education and skilled training of students and/or incumbent workers.
