Rep. Forhan Announces Opposition to Senate Bill 158

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Elliot Forhan (D-South Euclid) today criticized State Senator Jerry C. Cirino (R-Kirtland) and members of the Ohio Senate for passing legislation on Wednesday that would prevent a vote this November in the City of Cleveland on a participatory-budgeting city charter amendment.

“I urge the members of the Ohio House and Governor DeWine: leave Cleveland alone. Stay out of the city’s business. Let Clevelanders decide this city initiative,” said Rep. Forhan. “Ohio Republicans demonstrated recently that, with respect to ballot issues, they have little regard for the voices of the voters. However, like in the August special election this year, the people deserve to be heard.”

Opponent witnesses, including the City of Cleveland, the Ohio Municipal League and the Ohio Mayors Alliance, testified on Tuesday in the Ohio Senate General Government Committee against Senate Bill 158
