Reps. Crawley, Weinstein condemn reported Trump comments on fallen U.S. soldiers

COLUMBUS- State Representatives Erica Crawley (D-Columbus) and Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson), both veterans of the United States Armed Forces,today strongly condemned the comments reportedly made by President Donald Trump that labeled fallen U.S. service members as “losers” and “suckers”. The comments add to previous public statements by the President belittling the service of former President George H.W. Bush and U.S. Senator John McCain.

“After 70 days there have been no public statements from the President or his administration condemning or investigating the Russian bounties on U.S. soldiers,” said Rep. Crawley. “Our military women and men who have paid the ultimate sacrifice are our heroes. It is the responsibility of the President and the federal government to speak up and defend these heroes yet, this administration is disgracefully choosing to either remain silent or make even more disgraceful comments. We have not forgotten and I will continue to do all I can to speak up for Ohioans, especially my fellow veterans and active members of our armed forces.”

“As a veteran of the United States Air Force, the President’s statement regarding those who gave their lives for this country puts me at a loss for words. And yet, I am unsurprised,” said Rep. Weinstein. “We have received near radio silence from The White House in the months since it was revealed the Russian government put bounties on American soldiers in Afghanistan. As Ranking Members on the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Committee, I will continue to do all that I can to advocate for Ohio’s men and women in uniform.”

The condemnation from Reps. Crawley and Weinstein come after their introduction of House Resolution 354 on July 7th, which urged Congress to investigate the Trump Administration’s failure to adequately protect U.S. service members from Russian-backed bounties for the murder of U.S, service members.
