Rep. Weinstein Announces Safety Upgrades for Local Railroad Crossings

July 17, 2024
Casey Weinstein News

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) today announced the release of more than $1M by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) for safety improvements at four Ohio rail crossings.

“I am thrilled to announce the development of new railroad safety improvements in our community. This investment is a crucial step towards enhancing our transportation infrastructure and keeping our drivers, pedestrians, and railroad workers safe. As the industry continues to grow, I remain committed to ensuring safety standards are set in place to meet that growth,” said Rep. Weinstein.

One of the crossings chosen to receive these funds is located in the 34th District, at the Bailey Road intersection in Cuyahoga Falls. This crossing will receive $482,740 for the installment of flashing lights and gates with cantilevers to warn traffic of an incoming train.

To increase public safety during the construction of the project, local governments may seek funding from the PUCO for the cost of safety improvements such as rumble strips, illumination, improved signage, or other enhancements at the project location.
