COLUMBUS – State Rep. Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) today announced that the upcoming expanded, back-to-school Ohio sales tax holiday starts Tuesday, July 30th through Thursday, August 8th. During the tax-free holiday, there will be no state or local sales or use tax on all tangible personal property that is $500 or less.

“As we approach the beginning of the school year, I want to encourage my constituents to take advantage of this tax-free holiday. It is my hope that this expansion brings much-needed financial relief to all the hardworking teachers and families in the state. Ultimately, as legislators, we must continue doing our best to ensure every student has the resources they need to succeed,” said Rep. Weinstein.

In 2018, state lawmakers passed legislation making this three-day, back-to-school sales tax holiday a recurring holiday each year.

In 2024, Am. Sub. House Bill (HB) 33 expanded the three-day sales tax holiday to at least three days that includes the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of August each year if a budget surplus exists.
