State Representative Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) today announced the release for $150,000 in state funds to Bionymer, Inc., a nonprofit start-up affiliated with The Ohio State University located in Hudson, Ohio, for the development of a device to improve treatment of patients with hyperkalemia. The funding was approved by the state Controlling Board, a panel tasked with oversight of state spending.

“The medical research being done here in Hudson to improve the lives of the millions of Americans with hyperkalemia is extraordinary and second to none,” said Rep. Weinstein. “This investment will go a long way to improving care and will ultimately save lives.”

Bionymer, Inc. received $150,000 for the development of a device to help patients known to be suffering from hyperkalemia, a condition affects muscle and nerve control, and can lead to cardiac arrest. Funding for the project was previously approved by the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, whose mission is to accelerate the creation and growth of investable and scalable technology and tech companies in Ohio.
