COLUMBUS — Ohio House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron), State Representative Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) and State Representative Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) today released a statement in response to President Donald Trump’s calling for a boycott of an American company, based in Akron, Ohio, that employs approximately 62,000 people.

“Goodyear Tires employs thousands of U.S. workers, many of them Ohioans. For a sitting president to call for a boycott that could potentially harm an iconic American company and its 3,000 Ohio workers is reprehensible during normal times, but especially during a pandemic where tens of thousands of Ohioans are unemployed and businesses all over the state are forced to close because President Trump refuses to lead during this national crisis.

President Trump promised to bring manufacturing jobs back to the Buckeye State, but instead he is putting them in jeopardy.

We are proud to have Goodyear headquartered in Akron and we are proud to represent the ‘Rubber City.’”
