Hillyer Votes to Support Second Amendment Right
COLUMBUS – State Representative Brett Hillyer (R-Uhrichsville) Wednesday voted to support Ohioans 2nd Amendment right.
Senate Bill 215 would allow law-abiding Ohio citizens to carry a concealed handgun without a permit. This legislation is one of the most significant bills passed having to do with Ohioans second amendment rights in years.
Under the bill, if you are 21 and legally qualify for a concealed carry license, you can legally carry that handgun concealed for any lawful purposes with no additional licenses, fees or paperwork required.
“I took an oath to uphold our Constitution. I take that oath very seriously. Today, we are supporting our constitution and supporting law-abiding Ohioans. This is a good bill and I’m proud to support it,” said Hillyer.
If adopted into law, Ohioans can still apply for a concealed handgun license but it would no longer be mandatory for them to carry a gun. A concealed carry permit is still necessary for reciprocity purposes when traveling to other states.
The bill received final approval by the Senate today and now heads to the desk of Governor Mike DeWine.
