COLUMBUS –State Representative Bill Dean’s (R-Xenia) legislation to designate a portion State Route 142 in Madison County as the “Firefighter Tommy Rees Memorial Highway” passed the Ohio General Assembly as a part of House Bill 578.

Firefighter Tommy Rees served with the Jefferson Township Fire Department for over six years. While serving a 24 hour shift at the end of December 2021, Tommy passed away in his sleep.

“Firefighter Rees left behind an incredible legacy and is missed by many throughout the Madison County Community,” Dean said. “My hope is that this can bring a bit of comfort to a grieving community, as we remember and honor Firefighter Rees’ service and dedication to his family, community and department.”

He left behind a grieving wife, four young children and many friends at the Department and in the community.

The bill will designate the northbound and southbound lanes of State Route 142, between Interstate Route 70 and United States Route 40, in Madison County as “Firefighter Tommy Rees Memorial Highway.”

This is one of many memorial highways named in H.B. 578 honoring different groups and individuals across the state. The measure now heads to the Governor to be signed.
