House Committee Passes Legislation Updating Medicare Solicitation Rules
COLUMBUS— Today the Ohio House Insurance Committee passed legislation that will prohibit the Superintendent of Insurance from prohibiting certain forms of solicitation of Medicare supplement policies.
Currently, the Superintendent of Insurance determines the rules to establish minimum standards for benefits, claims payment, advertising and marketing practices and compensation agreements, and reporting practices for Medicare supplement policies and certificates. The bill simply adds limitations to the types of rules the Superintendent can or cannot implement.
The Superintendent may not prohibit the following methods of solicitation of Medicare supplement policies and certificates:
- Print solicitation;
- In-person solicitation in public or common areas; and
- Telephonic or electronic solicitation
“It is time for Ohio to join others in these efforts,” Dean said. “I am very grateful to my fellow Insurance Committee members for their yes votes, and I look forward to continuing to work on this bill.”
House Bill 675 will now head to the House floor for a vote.
