COLUMBUS – State Representative Thomas West (D-Canton) announced the passage of the capital budget, HB 687, by the Ohio House of Representatives yesterday. The capital budget appropriates resources to state owned infrastructure, colleges, universities, and school districts as well as other community projects. The capital budget is typically passed every 2 years with this year’s budget appropriating over $3.5 billion to counties across Ohio with $191 million being allocated to community projects.
“As a member of the House Finance Committee, I am proud of the work we have done to ensure our communities are well-funded and taken care of,” said Rep. West. “Through these investments, we are on the right track to restoring and revitalizing House District 49, Stark County, and the entire state of Ohio.”
Rep. West helped to secure $1.1 million in funding for a number of community projects, including:
$300, 000 for Canton Township’s Faircrest Park Enhancement Project
$150,000 for Navarre-Bethlehem Park Improvements
$150,000 for the construction of the Powell Education Center
$500,000 for the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Cancer Center
The capital budget now heads to the Governor’s desk.
