COLUMBUS – State Representative Monique Smith (D-Fairview Park) today announced the passage of the capital budget, House Bill (HB) 687, by the Ohio House of Representatives. The capital budget appropriates resources to state owned infrastructure, colleges, universities and school districts, as well as other community projects. The capital budget is typically passed every 2 years with this year’s budget appropriating over $3.5 billion to counties across Ohio, with $191 million of that being allocated to community projects.

“After reaching out to community leaders across my district and learning about their needs, I am proud that I am now able to bring home these capital budget funds that will improve public spaces so that every member of the communities across my district can enjoy them,” said Rep. Smith.

Rep. Smith helped to secure $625,000 in funding for a number of community projects, including:

$200,000  for Rocky River / Center Gateway Improvement Project;
$ 150,000 for North Olmsted / Community Park Improvements;
$ 100,000 for Bay Village / The Village Green Improvements;
$ 75,000 for Fairview Park / Bain Park;
$ 100,000 for Westlake / Lilly Weston House.

Rep. Smith also advocated for $1.98 million in funding for a number of projects of countywide significance, including:

$200,000 for MacDonald Women’s Hospital;
$ 500,000 for Ohio Aerospace Institute Building;
$450,000 for MetroHealth  Senior Health and Wellness Center;

The capital budget now moves to the Governor’s desk for approval.
