Ohio state Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) today voted against the final version of Ohio’s biennial budget, House Bill (HB) 166 because the Republicans who control state government placed the interests of wealthy Ohioans and corporations ahead of the state’s working families, shortchanged public education and local governments, and refused to repeal HB 70, which is also known as the “Youngstown Plan.”

“HB 166 is a slap in the face to the thousands of students in Youngstown, Lorain, and East Cleveland who are trapped in schools controlled by autocratic, unaccountable CEOs and academic distress commissions (ADCs) that have been established under the provisions of HB 70,” Rep. Lepore-Hagan said. “The Republicans know the Youngstown Plan is a farce and failure. That’s why the budget contains a moratorium on the establishment of new ADCs.
