COLUMBUS- Today, State Reps. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) and Jeffrey A. Crossman (D-Parma) issued the following statement on the Ohio Power Siting Board decision to deny the FirstEnergy proposal for 5-Miles of Power Lines in downtown Youngstown

“Youngstown is united in fighting for our beautiful downtown. This is our time for revitalization and our moment to rejuvenate this far-too-often overlooked community,” said Rep. Lepore-Hagan. “Utilities have far too much power in Columbus. I am so thankful our community stepped up, came together, and showed we are powerful and we will not be kicked around.”

“We are grateful that the Siting Board actually listened to the Youngstown community who worked to ensure that their voice was heard on this issue. We think the board made the correct decision after hearing from us.  This project, as currently designed by First Energy, did not meet the needs of the community and, if it had been approved, would have damaged the beautiful downtown recreational facilities that the community worked so hard to build,” said Rep. Crossman. “I'm so glad I was able to support the community's effort here. I hope that First Energy will now go back to the drawing board and work with the community as they move forward with grid improvements.”
