State Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) Monday was named Commerce & Labor Committee’s Ranking Member, the House Minority’s highest ranking official on the legislative panel.

“I am honored to lead the Democratic Caucus on the House Commerce & Labor Committee,” said Rep. Lepore-Hagan. “In the 58th District, we are experiencing rapid changes at the intersection of labor and technology, like at the ‘America Makes’ institute. It is my priority to support similar high-tech innovations to grow our workforce and economy. I also look forward to encouraging policy that gives workers a fair opportunity for a better quality of life.”

The House of Representatives has 19 standing committees. House Republicans have slightly altered the committee structure for the 131st General Assembly, splitting state and local government into two separate committees and adding the Community and Family Advancement Committee.

House Democratic Leader Fred Strahorn (D-Dayton) announced today’s placements saying, "With this committee leadership in place, we have the right people in the right positions to take on the important issues facing Ohioans. These members have a strong, diverse and focused mix of talents and abilities that will contribute to a higher quality of life for everyday Ohioans. We are in a stronger position to make sure that all Ohioans can feel the promise and opportunity of our state.”

Committee meetings are open to the public and held any time before or after House floor sessions. The full membership of committees will be announced at a later date.
