COLUMBUS- State Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) today gave sponsor testimony on House Bill (HB) 607, her legislation with joint sponsor Rep. Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland) to create the Gender Pay Disparity Task Force. The goal of the Gender Pay Disparity Task Force would be to determine the extent of the pay disparity between men and women in Ohio, identify the causes and develop recommendations for legislative action to decrease the pay disparity.
“If you work hard, you should be able to get ahead. That’s our Ohio promise. We will never make good on this promise so long as working women, especially women of color, are not paid wages equal to their male counterparts,” said Rep. Lepore-Hagan. “The work of this task force will lift up an essential and crucial part of Ohio’s economy: working women and the families they support. I remain committed to doing everything I can to close this wage gap and help working women in Ohio achieve the financial security they’ve earned and desperately deserve.”
The Gender Pay Disparity Task Force would consist of 7 members, four of which must be women. The task force would be required to issue a report of its findings and recommendations to the Governor, the Senate President, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives no later than six months after HB 607 goes into effect.
HB 607 awaits further hearings in the House Commerce and Labor Committee.
