Rep. Mary Lightbody (D-Westerville) today gave sponsor testimony on House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 32, a resolution that would rename the Battlefield Acoustics Lab at Wright Patterson Air Force Base after Col. William J. Cavanaugh, who was one of the leaders in designing the lab in 1955.

“Col. Cavanaugh was a leader in designing the anechoic chamber at WPAFB over six decades ago. The lab is one of the quietest places in the world and is used to conduct research to prepare our fighting men and women for the sounds of war that they may experience and need to interpret and understand. This enables them to better to make accurate and critical decisions in the midst of the overwhelming cacophony of a combat engagement,” said Rep. Lightbody. “I hope that my colleagues will agree to honor Col. Cavanaugh with this resolution.”

Rep. Brian Lampton (R-Beavercreek) is the co-sponsor of the resolution. HCR 32 now awaits further consideration by the House Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committee.
