COLUMBUS— Today, State Rep. Mary Lightbody (D-Westerville) applauded the announcement by the U.S. Treasury Department that beginning on July 15, 39 million families across the country will receive monthly child payments.
Eligible families will receive a payment of up to $300 per month for each child under age 6 and up to $250 per month for each child age 6 and above. It is estimated that the American Rescue Plan will lift more than five million children out of poverty this year and cut child poverty by more than half.
“I am pleased that the Biden Administration is implementing the American Rescue Plan by expanding the child tax credit and pre-paying families on a monthly basis. By putting families first, the Child Tax Credits will help the entire economy recover faster from the Covid-19 crisis. I urge my colleagues to build upon this safety net by supporting HB 145, my bipartisan legislation with joint sponsor Rep. Andrea White (R-Kettering) that would help expand eligibility for publicly funded child care,” said Rep. Lightbody.
