COLUMBUS—State Representative Laura Lanese (R-Grove City) this week was appointed by Speaker of the Ohio House Ryan Smith (R-Bidwell) to serve on the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee (CIIC).
Tasked with providing oversight of Ohio’s prisons and youth services facilities, the CIIC works to serve taxpayers, prison stakeholders and legislators in order to ensure a safe and humane correctional system.
Specifically outlined in Ohio law, the CIIC is required to:
• Inspect each state correctional institution;
• Evaluate and assist in the development of programs to improve conditions and operations in correctional institutions;
• Report on inspection findings, and any programs proposed or developed to improve conditions or operations in correctional institutions;
• Evaluate and report on the grievance procedure at each correctional institution.
“Thank you to Speaker Smith for considering me and appointing me to this important committee,” Rep. Lanese said. “As a member of the Criminal Justice Committee and Vice Chair of the Civil Justice Committee, I appreciate the importance of ensuring our corrections system serves the societal goals of justice, rehabilitation, and crime prevention. I am thankful for this opportunity, and I am ready to get to work on this committee.”
Rep. Lanese will serve with other members of the Ohio House and Ohio Senate to help facilitate the duties of the committee.
