COLUMBUS – State Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) issued a statement today recognizing Latina Women’s Equal Pay Day, the day when Latina women’s pay catches up to that of non-Hispanic, white men from the previous year. Latina women earn on average just 57 cents for every $1 a white man makes.

“When we compare what Latina women make for every dollar their white male counterpart makes, a striking inequality exists that we must work to correct,” said Rep. Miranda. “The Ohio Equal Pay Act will take significant steps towards closing that gap and it is long overdue to enact this legislation.”

Earlier this year, Rep. Miranda and Rep. Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland) re-introduced the Ohio Equal Pay Act. The bill, House Bill 232, would require employers to provide equal pay and opportunity in the workplace regardless of gender, encourage transparency in the workplace and empower employees to negotiate for the earnings they deserve.
