COLUMBUS—State Representative Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) today released a statement following the dangerous and partisan attack on Dr. Amy Acton by House Republicans:

“This is a sad attempt by House Republicans to kneecap the authority of Dr. Amy Acton and, hence, Governor DeWine,” said Rep. Miranda. “As this battle between the Republican-controlled executive and legislative branch continues, Ohio’s ability to quickly manage a public health crisis appears to be the latest casualty. Instead of returning and enacting meaningful legislation to combat COVID-19, we are caught up in an intra-party temper tantrum.”

The amendment was attached to Senate Bill 1 in today’s State and Local Government Committee meeting without advance notice or any public testimony and was discharged from committee on a party-line vote, with all Democratic members voting against it.

The amended bill now goes to the Senate for a vote.
