State Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) reacted Monday to state lawmakers approving over $1 million to reimburse security-related costs incurred by the Ohio National Guard in response to threats of violence and civil unrest at the state capitol following the Jan. 6 attacks in Washington, D.C.

“Lies and conspiracy theories that were promoted by elected officials at all levels of government, including the former President, sought to erode public trust about the results of a free and fair election,” said Rep. Miranda. “While I’m certainly glad that we were able to take steps to keep our state safe from the threats of violence directly fueled by these lies, it’s a shame that Ohio taxpayers have to foot the bill for something that was completely preventable.”

The Ohio Controlling Board met Monday to approve over $1 million to fund state active duty costs related to the potential for civil unrest at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus. This comes on top of the $3.5 million spent by the Ohio State Highway Patrol during the week leading up to President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
