COLUMBUS – State Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park), along with members of the House Democratic Caucus, today sent a letter to the Ohio House Finance Committee and the Ohio House Transportation Subcommittee of Finance suggesting a series of amendments to the State Transportation Budget following the tragic events in East Palestine.
“The East Palestine train derailment is a serious environmental disaster for Ohio. Ensuring the protection of the public, railway workers, and the environment should always be one of our government’s top most priorities,” said Rep. Miranda. “Democrats have continued to advocate for safety legislation throughout multiple General Assemblies and urge the Ohio House Finance Committee and the Ohio House Transportation Subcommittee of Finance to adopt these amendments. We should always be listening to our constituents’ concerns and ensuring that, no matter who you are or where you come from, we will act swiftly in ensuring your safety.”
The Ohio House Finance Committee is scheduled to meet next on Tuesday, February 21st and the biennial Transportation Budget must be passed by Friday, March 31st.
