COLUMBUS— State Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 276, legislation designating Mile Marker 22 on I-71 as the Veterans Suicide Memorial Mile.
“Recognizing the women and men who have made the selfless sacrifice to serve our country but lost the inner personal struggle is long overdue,” said Miranda. “Nearly 22 veterans a day take their lives and the awareness surrounding that fact is non-existent. That is why I am proud to have championed this mile marker. This mile marker is the first of its kind in any state across the nation. With so many veterans calling Ohio home, it is important that Ohio lead on this issue.”
The provision was included in an omnibus bill with several other road-naming proposals.
After passing the House and Senate, HB 276 now heads to the governor’s desk for signature.
