COLUMBUS – Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park) this week announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 338 to award up to $1.5b for design and build services to the Brent Spence Bridge.

“I want to thank President Biden, his administration, and the Democratic Members of Congress for passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that allowed this funding,” said Rep. Miranda. “Replacing Ohio’s crumbling bridges is of utmost importance for people to get to work and for our economy to stay on the road.”

HB 338 would:

  • Authorize the Director of Transportation to award design/build contracts up to a total of $1.5 billion with respect to an Ohio River Bridge project (i.e. the Brent Spence Bridge Project);
    Require the Director to apply to the Controlling Board if the contracts will exceed the $1.5 billion threshold;
  • Authorizes the Director to compensate not more than three bidders for preparation of a responsive preliminary design concept for the project;
  • Specify that the contracting authority granted by the bill is for purposes of applying for federal funding, and any subsequent awards of that funding would need approval by the General Assembly for specific appropriations.

HB 338 was passed in the Senate yesterday and now moves to the Governor’s desk.
