State Rep. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) today announced state approval of a $100,000 investment in a local roadwork development project* that will help two Shaker Heights businesses create 25 new jobs. As a result of roadway improvements and state assistance provided, ABA Insurance will create 15 new jobs and Paragon Advisors will create 10 new jobs, for a total of nearly $2 million in new payroll. The state signed off on the $100,000 investment at today’s meeting of the Controlling Board, a panel tasked with oversight of state spending.
“Maintaining strong infrastructure in our cities is vital to driving economic development and creating new jobs,” said Boyd. “Many communities are struggling to maintain and improve their roads and bridges after being hit by drastic state budget cuts in recent years. I am glad in this instance that the state was willing to partner on this important project to bring new jobs to Shaker Heights.”
The public roadwork improvement project includes constructing three new roads: one north/south street parallel to Warrensville Center Road; one road heading west from Warrensville Center Road; and one road heading east from Farnsleigh Road. The project will include site preparation curbs, sidewalks and pavement, water, sewer, and storm water utilities, as well as street lighting.
The state investment comes in the form of a Roadwork Development Grant, which are awarded for public roadwork improvements that support the expansion or attraction of businesses in Ohio. Eligible costs include widening, paving, road construction and reconstruction, and right-of-way infrastructure improvements such as sewer or utility lines.
