COLUMBUS—State Representative Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) today applauded the efforts of Ohioans joining in the National School Choice Week celebrations statewide, and announced his intentions to introduce legislation which would improve Ohio’s educational choice options.

“Whether a family decides that a public, private, or parochial school would be best for their child – or, like my family, chooses to home educate – I stand with their choice. I will always fight for the rights of families to determine their children’s educational path,” said Rep. Koehler.

Rep. Koehler, a two-term member of the Ohio House Education and Career Readiness Committee, has worked on legislation to improve Ohio’s five existing educational choice scholarships, which were utilized by more than 30,000 children in the 2017-2018 school year.  Ohio is one of 16 states which offers vouchers.

Held every January, National School Choice Week is the world’s largest annual celebration of opportunity in K-12 education. Its goal is to raise awareness of the different K-12 education options available for children, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.

Further information about scholarships offered by the State of Ohio is available through the Ohio Department of Education’s website at http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Other-Resources/Scholarships.
