Yesterday, State Representative Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) presented a resolution designating April as Donate Life Month in Ohio at Ohio House session.

“In 2013 when we lost my brother to a heart attack at the young age of 54, the one thing that brought hope and light to a very tragic loss was the revelation that he had signed up to be an organ donor,” said Rep. Koehler. “That simple act allowed us to rejoice in the legacy that he would leave through this life giving act.”

This resolution recognizes the work of our state’s organ procurement organizations and the need they have for organ, eye, and tissue donors in our state. Last year 1,084 organ transplants were made possible by 353 Ohioans who were organ donors at the time of their death. 3,282 Ohioans gave their sight and 2,178 people donated tissue. Eight lives can be saved by a single donor with donations also going to 50 or more people.

“We pass a lot of resolutions on the House Floor, but this resolution, if acted out, has the chance to save the lives of the 3,200 individuals waiting for organ transplants in Ohio,” stated Rep. Koehler.  “I am proud to co-sponsor this Resolution in the name of my brother Kurt Koehler and his family.”

People may join the Ohio Donor Registry by visiting or upon renewing their driver’s license or state ID.
