House Bill 28
The Ohio House of Representatives recently approved House Bill 28. This legislation aims to simplify Ohio’s property tax system, promote transparency, and avoid unintended property tax increases by eliminating replacement property tax levies.
Under House Bill 28, local governments will be prohibited from proposing replacement property tax levies – which can mislead voters and result in unexpected property tax increases – beginning with elections held on or after October 21, 2025. The bill will not affect existing replacement levies.
The legislation will preserve the ability of local governments to renew existing levies and propose increases or new levies directly.
House Bill 28 now moves to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
“Passing H.B. 28 was a vital first step in the process of halting sky-rocketing property taxes,” said Representative Click. “I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in the Ohio Legislature to lower property taxes and combat inflation.”
District 88 Property Tax Update
On Saturday, March 15th, Representative Click hosted two townhall meetings in Fremont and Tiffin to discuss the troubling impact of skyrocketing property taxes in the 88th House District. Representative Click spent over five hours engaging in Q&A with nearly 150 Ohioans, sharing their mutual frustrations and hardships related to property tax increases and explaining what the legislature is doing to address the problem.
Representative Click is committed to helping his colleagues in pushing back against increases and unclear levies and has vowed to continue working to alleviate unnecessary and overburdensome property tax hikes.
Since the townhall meetings, Representative Click has already fulfilled one of his promises - to support H.B. 28.
