State Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) last week honored the Archbishop Hoban High School football team for winning their fourth straight championship with a Resolution on the Ohio House floor. The Archbishop Hoban Knights won 42 to 28 against the Massillon Washington Tigers to win the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II State Football Championship.

“Presenting the House resolutions to these young people who have chosen to excel in their academic and athletic capacities further proves that Ohio’s 34th house district is the ‘Birthplace of Champions,” said Sykes. “I am truly proud of the awardees for their outstanding dedication and achievements, and for continuously striving for success and paving the way for the next generation of champions. If you see any of them in the Akron area please congratulate them for their remarkable accomplishments.”

Rep. Sykes also honored the Discovery Montessori School chess team for winning the 2018 Ohio Elementary State Championship chess competition in the K-3 Primary division. Individual players recognized on the House floor were Arjun Gorakh Soni, who won the 2018 Ohio Elementary State Chess Champion in the Primary (K-3) Division; Saadhika Lakshmi Bagley, who won the 2018 Ohio Elementary State Chess Champion in the Primary (K-3) Division and the 2018 Ohio All Girls K-12 U1000 Chess Champion; and Hemma Svasti Bagley, who won first place in the 2018 United States Women’s Open Chess Championship in the U1400 category for the second time.
