House Minority Leader and State Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) on Friday joined members of the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and State Highway Patrol at Helen Arnold Community Learning Center to promote the AAP’s Bike Helmet Safety Awareness initiative.

“I’m proud to partner with the Ohio AAP to provide bicycle safety tips and remind children to ‘Put A Lid On It’ to help prevent injuries and save lives,” said Sykes. “We were able to give the kids a special presentation teaching them the importance of wearing a bike helmet and helmets to take home.”

Over 225 helmets were given to kindergarteners, first and second graders at Helen Arnold CLC. Over 9,000 bike helmets have been distributed in Ohio this year as part of the “Put a Lid on It!” Bike Helmet Safety Awareness program.

Sykes serves as the House Democratic Leader and represents Ohio’s 34th House district, which includes Akron and parts of Cuyahoga Falls and Bath Township.
