Rep. Sykes Observes Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week
State Rep. Emilia Sykes (D-Akron) today recognized the week of Dec. 1 through Dec. 7 as Crohn’s disease and Colitis Awareness Week. Crohn’s and Colitis are known as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). The goal of Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week is to raise awareness and educate the public about IBD, recognize those affected by Crohn’s and colitis and those who provide support for patients suffering from the conditions.
“These diseases can make daily life incredibly challenging for those affected,” said Sykes. “I feel hopeful that there are people in our communities working hard each day to provide support to patients and find a cure. Let us take the time to read the stories of those affected and their loved ones and become involved wherever we are able. Together, we can raise awareness and find a cure to end this disease.”
Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week was created by U.S. Senate Resolution 199, to express appreciation to the family members and caregivers who support people in the U.S. living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. It also recognizes health care professionals who care for patients suffering from IBD and researchers who work to develop new treatments and find a cure.
