State Rep. Darrell Kick (R-Loudonville) announced his support for the Ashland County Historical Society after they received a $170,000 cultural facilities grant for renovations of their building.

“These dollars going into the renovations for this complex will be significant for the preservation of this historical part of Ashland County,” said Kick.

Known as the Freer Home, the Ashland County Historical Society building was donated in 1897. The building served as the Ashland County Children’s Home from 1907 to 1989. The historical site has also been used as an office for Ashland County Family Services, a juvenile detention center, and other private business office space.

The funding is provided by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), the grants from OFCC provide design and construction of cultural facilities through cooperation with nonprofit and local government project sponsors.

The project’s anticipated completion is for late spring or early summer of this year.
