Representative Brian Baldridge Announces House Budget Strengthens Southern Ohio

House Budget has a positive impact for Southern Ohio

COLUMBUS—State Representative Brian Baldridge (R-Winchester) today announced that the new budget plan from the Ohio House greatly benefits Southern Ohio. Additional funding for Southern Ohio education, workforce improvements, and economic development directly impacts communities and institutions within Adams and Scioto Counties, as well as portions of Lawrence County. 

“I am thrilled that we were able to provide a tax cut for the middle and lower class while also being able to invest millions of new state dollars into the economy of Southern Ohio,” said Baldridge. “This budget plan is committed to revitalizing our communities, enhancing opportunities for our students, and making sure our people have all the resources they need to get a great paying job.” 

  • $2,000,000 to Shawnee State University to assist first generation college students in attaining a degree 
  • $25,000,000 to the Rural Industrial Loan Program which allows applicants to apply for loans and loan guarantees for the development and improvement of industrial parks in rural areas 
  • Additional funding to the iBELIEVE Foundation to provide opportunities for Appalachian youth to develop 21st century skills, including leadership, communication, and problem-solving for college access and retention 
  • $125,000 to rural universities to assist with economic development, administration, and health services. 
  • $20,000,000 to Ohio Maritime Assistance in order to promote new growth and industry in the Ohio River region 
  • $5,000,000 of additional funding to the Appalachian New Economy Workforce Partnership which assists with new career technical training and workforce innovation 

The two-year state budget passed the Ohio House today with 85 affirmative votes and 9 negative votes.
