Cutrona Prepared to Support Community Projects coming to the Mahoning Valley

COLUMBUS – State Representative Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) was able to advocate for community projects in the Valley through House Bill 687, the state’s capital budget. 

“This Capital Budget brings necessary funding to projects throughout our community to make the Mahoning Valley a great place to live, work and raise a family,” said Cutrona. “This budget invests in Ohio’s future by repairing and upgrading our aging infrastructure and supporting important projects to improve education and the quality of life in the Valley.”

Mahoning County is one of the ten highest funded counties in the state receiving over $4 million dollars.

Local projects include:

  • Youngstown Fly High 
    • $400,000 to allow for the purchase and renovation of space as it becomes available in communities to expand programming
  • DeYor Performing Arts Center
    • $600,000 for a roof replacement and installation of an elevator 
  • OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science and Technology
    • $600,000 to renovate the second floor from tenant space to additional museum space for exhibits and work space for staff
  • Butler Art Museum
    • $300,000 to expand the facilities to create a new media and electronic art space
  • Canfield Innovative Energy and Technology Workforce Training Center 
    • $250,000 to create a new state-of-the-art facility focused on training high school and adult students in multiple areas of modern sustainable energy platforms to prepare students for employment and jobs of the future
  • Environmental Education Pavilion at  Forest Lawn Stormwater Park
    • $750,000 to acquire land and construct a new pavilion building with landscaping 
  • Austintown Township Park Bandshell Replacement
    • $140,000 allocated to replace a bandshell 
  • Lowellville Community Literacy Workforce and Cultural Center
    • $650,000 granted to construct the Whole Child/ Whole Family Service Center
  • Poland Historical Society
    • $25,000 granted to make general cosmetic improvements to the facility 
  • Mahoning County Agricultural Society: Canfield Fair
    • $500,000 granted to build a restroom and conference area for the Junior Fair 
  • Youngstown Heritage Manor
    • $250,000 allocated to enhance infection control measures and fortify infrastructure 
  • Youngstown State University 
    • Over $10 million granted to make improvements throughout campus to infrastructure, student safety, emergency generators, and STEM laboratory renovations  
  • Eastern Gateway Community College 
    • $350,000 granted for HVAC and plumbing maintenance improvements on the campus 

“I am very happy to see these local projects receive vital funding through the capital budget,” said Cutrona. “These items will help strengthen our communities and will have a positive impact on our citizens.”

House Bill 687 will be approved by lawmakers this afternoon.
