COLUMBUS – State Representative Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) today held a press conference announcing Sub. House Bill 169, of which he is a sponsor. This bill will provide $250 million in grants for law enforcement and first responders throughout Ohio.

“One of the key things I strive to accomplish in Columbus is to provide much-needed funding for our law enforcement and House Bill 169 accomplishes just that,” said Cutrona.

$175 million will be allocated to:

  • Support collaborative responses to violent crime and violence related to drug trafficking
  • Invest in technology and equipment to allow law enforcement to respond to the rise in violent crime
  • Reduce backlogs in state and local crime laboratories

An additional $75 million will be allocated to:

  • Attract recruits that also include creative methods to strengthen the public safety workforce
  • Create wellness initiatives for law enforcement and first responders to mitigate the significant mental and physical impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Invest in technology to increase cybersecurity to protect critical infrastructure

“I am pleased to speak to this very important funding that our law enforcement and first responders need to continue to protect and serve our communities to the best of their abilities,” said Cutrona.
