State Reps. Kristin Boggs (D-Columbus) and Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today introduced legislation to clean up blighted properties in urban communities across Ohio. The bill comes as many communities struggle with the state’s ongoing opioid crisis, underemployment and an abundance of foreclosed and abandoned properties. The Columbus-area lawmakers say their plan would combat neighborhood blight and increase local property values.

State Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 529, the state’s $2.6 billion biennial capital bill. The capital budget is primarily used to fund the upkeep of state facilities, colleges and university campuses and state lands, but also includes a number of community projects that directly impact the West Columbus “Hilltop” neighborhood.  The bill includes more than $110 million to replace the 178 bed Kosar facility at the Hilltop’s Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare Hospital.

Adam Miller (D-Columbus) and Democratic House members from across the state today issued statements in support of the Working People’s Day of Action planned for Saturday, February 24 at the Ohio Statehouse. The Ohio march comes on the heels of the introduction of six Republican-sponsored constitutional amendments to implement so-called “right to work” legislation and other workplace restrictions in the Buckeye State.

Miller (D-Columbus) and Jim Hughes (R-Upper Arlington) today introduced legislation to increase penalties for those convicted of solicitation from a third to a first-degree misdemeanor. As Ohio’s opioid crisis has worsened in recent years, the number of prostitution-related arrests has increased by more than 30 percent across the state.

State Reps. Adam C. Miller (D-Columbus) and Bernadine Kennedy Kent (D-Columbus) recently introduced new legislation titled the School Safety Drill bill to help improve emergency response readiness in school districts across the state.

“The School Safety Drill bill will directly improve communication between school districts and first responders by involving all qualified parties in the emergency procedure rehearsal,” said Miller, a former school board member, teacher and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve JAG Corps with military service in Afghanistan. “The Rehearsal of Concept (ROC) drill used in the military is a proven best practice in helping identify gaps in emergency response planning. I believe school districts need a similar tool to help ensure our students are safe.”
