COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) is celebrating the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the United States. As a member of the Ohio Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, she attended the Union County Yellow Roses Planting Ceremony.

“We thank the bold and courageous leaders who were committed and resilient in fighting for women to have a voice in government,” said Richardson. “Without their perseverance, I wouldn’t be able to serve where I am today as a state representative.”

The Ohio Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission oversees the statewide commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote and raises awareness of the importance and historical significance of the 19th Amendment.

“We hope that this event and the 100th anniversary celebrations occurring across our state serve as a source of inspiration for future female leaders to run for public office,” added Richardson.

On August 18, 1920, Congress ratified the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, giving women the right to vote. On Election Day that year, over 8 million women across the nation exercised their right to vote for the first time.
