COLUMBUS—Rep. Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) today voted in favor of the Fair School Funding Plan, House Bill (HB) 305, bipartisan legislation sponsored by Rep. John Patterson (D-Jefferson) that would transform the way Ohio’s schools are funded. Democratic lawmakers have long fought to reform the state’s school funding formula, which the Ohio Supreme Court has found unconstitutional four times, beginning with the DeRolph decision in 1997.

The Committee will hear legislation designed to repeal House Bill (HB) 6, the $2 billion corporate bailout tied to an ongoing FBI investigation into an alleged $60 million scheme to get the bill passed. Bipartisan legislation offering a clean repeal of HB 6 had previously languished in the Committee on Rules and Reference without any movement from the Majority Caucus for over a month before being referred to the newly formed Select Committee after House Democrats launched an effort to discharge it from Rules and Reference.
