Cutrona Announces Over $6 Million Investment in Mahoning County

COLUMBUS, OH — State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) is pleased to announce that more than $6 million will be directed towards three waterfront projects in Mahoning County as part of the Wonderful Waterfronts Initiative.

Projects Mahoning County will receive are as follows:

City of Struthers, $1,188,264: Funds will be used to at the Struthers Community River Launch to build a stairway with a kayak groove for a direct connection to river access, a pavilion and shelters, and a natural play area. Additional facilities will be installed to allow for better capacity to host recreational visitors.

Village of Lowellville, $936,960: Funds will be used to construct a canoe livery, pavilions, and a play facility at the Lowellville Waterfront Park and Canoe Livery. An extensive trail will be added through the wooded riverfront connecting to downtown.  

City of Youngstown, $3,891,475: Funds will be used to make improvements to Spring Commons Park, which will include active play equipment for ages and abilities, as well as pavilions, and shelters. A riverfront path and boulder terrace will be added to provide a beach stop-off point for kayakers to visit the park. 

“These investments will promote activity and improve our waterfronts,” said Cutrona. “It is important that we create spaces where communities can gather together and enjoy the outdoors.”

In total, over $51 million was awarded through the Wonderful Waterfronts Initiative, which focuses primarily on funding projects in Ohio's riverfront and lakefront communities, throughout Ohio’s Appalachian region.
