State Rep. Jamie Callender (R-Concord) announces that the state Controlling Board recently approved COVID-19 relief funding, some of which will be allocated to local governments within the 61st Ohio House District. This will support a range of pandemic-related expenses, including the work of first responders and other local services that have been vital in areas across Ohio.

“Lake County, similar to the entire state, has suffered due to the damage this pandemic has inflicted upon our communities,” said Callender. “These additional funds are going to significantly help our local governments get back on track and to further help us against COVID-19.”

In total, the Controlling Board approved $175 million in COVID-19 relief appropriations for the distribution to local governments throughout the state. Of that funding, Lake County was approved to receive approximately $6.6 million.

The measure is similar to the approval of $350 million to help local governments by the Ohio House of Representative under House Bill 481, which Callender supported and was signed into law over the summer.

The Controlling Board also approved COVID-19 aid to support local educational service centers, school age child care, and boards of developmental disabilities, including the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities, which is set to receive $40,960.

The next scheduled Controlling Board meeting is set for Sept. 14.
