COLUMBUS – State Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) issued a statement today following the news that Ohio reported more than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases for the third day in a row. On Thursday, Ohio broke its single-day record of COVID-19 cases with 2,178 new cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health. Wednesday was the first day that over 2,000 cases were reported since the pandemic began.

“Approximately 65% of Ohioans are currently living in areas with very high exposure of COVID-19,” said Rep. Russo.  “By remaining vigilant and making sure we continue to wear our masks, wash our hands regularly, avoid indoor gatherings, and maintain a distance of six feet between each other, we can fight this virus.  These small steps can have a huge impact, and we must all do our part to protect our loved ones and those at high risk.”

For months, House Democrats have called on Republican House leadership to require masks inside the Ohio Statehouse. Most recently, State Representative Kent Smith (D-Euclid) called on Speaker Bob Cupp (R-Lima) to implement a mask mandate.
