COLUMBUS – State Rep. Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 605 as an amendment to HB 606. The final bill would now give workers in grocery stores, food packing and processing facilities, peace officers, fire fighters, emergency medical workers and correctional officers access to workers’ compensation if they contract COVID-19 while on the job.

“Essential workers have been working night and day to ensure Ohioans have the care, food, transportation and other essential services they need during this unprecedented crisis. They have served on the front lines of this pandemic at great risk to themselves and their families,” said Rep. Kelly. “The passage of HB 605 is a crucial step towards ensuring that these front-line workers are safe and supported during the COVID-19 crisis.”

After passing the House, amended HB 606 now awaits further consideration by the Ohio Senate.
